By the work one knows the workman - Jean de la Fontaine

Your Framin’ Works restoration center specializes in photographic restoration and repair. While most photographic studios are happy to restore and reprint your images on a digital format, we offer more. Our process not only offers more options,  we offer additional services that many studios simply do not and we offer them for current generation photographs as well as those that come from generations before. These processes allow us to preserve your family’s history as well as specialty vintage photographs sought after and collected by those whose interests span the Civil War, aviation, inventors and, of course, famous persons in history and the arts & entertainment field.

When you bring in your photograph we determine whether it is in the vintage or current generation category. If it is of current generation format in most cases there are no steps that are necessary to preserve it. Vintage photographs are a different matter, and in all cases the papers and chemical processes began to fade and destroy themselves from the day that they were printed. If the photograph is in reasonably good condition we can “freshen” it up using both wet and dry processes to restore the photograph’s appearance. If it needs minor repairs in many cases the repairs can be done on the original photograph rather than a reprint. Before any of this work is done however, the photograph is subjected to a process that deacidfies and neutralizes the improper chemicals in both the paper and photographic printing process. Once that is done, the photograph it not only looks good, it will be preserved for future generations.

The repair process on your original photograph may take several steps. If small areas are missing or if the photographic surface has flaked off we will need to “fill” those areas with a subsurface that is similar to the original paper. Then we will use oil biased paints to match the missing areas to the surrounding ones. Once that is done the surface will be sealed using appropriate photographic sprays to even out the photographs appearance.
If your photograph is of the hand colored or pastel type these can often be repaired on the original surface as well.

If, however, we determine that your photograph’s repair is beyond what we can do on the original surface we can restore it using either digital or hard copy process. Once your photograph is examined our specialists can recommend the best process to you.
